Where Alternative and Traditional Therapies Unite

Cancer is a disease characterised by any malignant tumour growth caused by uncontrolled and abnormal cell division. It may spread to other body parts through the blood stream and lymphatic system. ‘Complementary and Alternative Medicine’ (CAM) is a diverse group of health and medical care systems, products, and practises currently viewed as complementary to standard or conventional medicine. Standard medicine is what doctors of osteopathy, medical doctors, and health professionals, including physical therapists and registered nurses, practise. CAM, however, is defined as a nonstandard treatment that is used along with the standard ones. Examples of complementary and alternative medicine include chiropractics, herbal medicines, and acupuncture.

Complementary Alternative Medicine treatments do not necessarily work for everybody. However, some methods used for CAM treatment, like acupuncture, may help with the treatment of pain, nausea, and side effects of cancer treatments. Researchers in general know more about the efficacy and safety of standard treatments for cancer than they do about the efficacy of CAM treatments. Based on a comprehensive survey on the use of CAM in the United States, findings revealed that 36 percent of adults in the U.S. use various forms of CAM. Cancer patients who are considering CAM or using it already should inform their medical care provider. When considering the use of CAM, patients should think of the benefits expected from the therapy, as well as its risks and possible side effects. Solid state disk.
